I really have alot of things to say.Like, I am really amazed by how human remember things as well as how we actually come about creating words and then matching meanings to it?
It is still intriguing at times, to be typing these words, yes, these words out to mean words. Who the hell invented words anyway? Why is
it
"words" and not
"hords"?Oh, right. Even by typing
"hords", the blogger spelling dictionary just underlined that word to me, telling me that the word, is wrong.
Let's talk/discuss about two things, shall we?Words and Memory.(I am blogging in the comfort of my boyfriend's room. He's sleeping at this very instance and I'm sleeping over since I can't possibly ask him to send me home now. I'm pretty much fully awake, as I've just completed my last paper AND have nothing much on tml. Enjoying the last of my beautiful nights before I go and help out over at La Viva for a few weeks.)Anyway, talking about words,
I've come to the conclusion that Singlish is one of the greatest things invented by Singaporeans. Second, would be the law created to ban the total existence
(at least not in public) of chewing gum.
I don't fancy getting my
(future) Christian Louboutins stuck in gum while sashaying down the streets, do you?
(I want, I want, I want!!! Muacks Muacks Muacks!!! I am hyperventilating in front of the computer.) I was typing a message to my best friend, Joanne the other day and the message was like this,
"XXXXX is it?" and then, I was pressing numerous times for the dictionary on my phone to change the
"hp" to
"is" when I got pretty pissed and then deleted the whole
"is it" and went
"XXXXXX, ah?".VOILA. Amazing right? I can sum two words into a single, Singlish expression. And, it is so much easier.
Like what my E-commerce lecturer said, "Singaporeans can turn
"Go a turn" into
"Gostan" "
And, my favorite; whenever I need to emphasize a point to baby, and literally stress the importance or beauty of something, I always go
"leh.""BABY!!!! That dress/bag/shoe/girl/whatever is so pretty,
LEH." or
"XXXXX is so irritating!!
Leh."
To replace
"Oh my, that is really disgusting!", just go
"AIYER!!!"See, I've just replaced six words, with one singlish word. Can any other English, (British/American)
beat that?!
What is it about Singlish that some,
SOME Singaporeans hate? It is part of our culture, one of the things I loved, besides nice food and almost safe environment. Well, beside the point that Singaporeans always love to push their way through the opening doors of the MRT.
......................................................................
Secondly, let's talk about, memory!
Actually, it's nothing to talk about, other than the fact that when people praise me, they always like to say
"Whoa, very good hor? You can speak English, Chinese and Thai somemore! How you say hello huh? Sa wad di kam is it?"Yes, And that is for guys, girls is
"ka".I don't know how many zillion times people try to strike a conversation with me using that line.
Even when I am washing my hair at the salon nearby my school, the shampoo boy tried that on me.
I find it amazing how my memory works, as I can understand/talk/listen to thai and it is all thanks to my mummy who talks to me in Thai from young. Now, the headache part, would be when I am teaching my own kids, in time to come.
Till then!
P.SThe whole post, I really am salivating over the picture of the shoes. There's thousand and one shoes I wanna post up from Christian Louboutins, but I don't wanna crash my blog or scare my boyfriend. HAHAHA!!!
